NOTABLE FIGURES

Called "Aeron the Corrupt" by smallfolk and highborn alike for the increase in taxes, cost of living, crime, and warring during his reign.

Aeron is fickle and temperamental by nature, which makes his favor easy to gain but impossible to keep.  He is easily offended but just as easily entertained, making him unpredictable.  He can be arrogant and vain.

He is pious enough to refuse the Targaryen tradition of brother-sister marrying, but he has had many mistresses.  The most notorious is Rayna Velaryon, a girl with striking resemblance to his own sister, Princess Aesha.

THE CROWN

Disliked more than even her son, she is called "Alysanne the Bad" (as opposed to historical figure Alysanne the Good).  Nothing good has come from her marriage to King Caeron -- not the Second Dornish War, or the War of the North, or the deaths of King Caeron and Prince Aerion, not even the reign of her son Aeron the Corrupt.

In her youth she was beautiful, manipulative, and conniving.  Presently she is paranoid and pious, and invests ungodsly amounts of coin to the Faith of the Seven and in "protecting the kingdom."  She is deeply disliked by most, especially the North and Dorne.

Alysanne calls her "Aeda the Undying" even though Aeda is only seven years older than her father, Lorent Tyrell.  Much like Queen Rhaenyra before her, Aeda was a kind, just, and dutiful wife to King Vaeric who served his kingdom well.  Aeda was loved by the kingdom, but has been mostly forgotten due to Alysanne's incompetence and Aeron's vanity.

She is considered the last bastion of hope for those of House Targaryen who do not wish to see the end of Targaryen traditions and interests.  As much as she fights her good-daughter for Aeron's favor, she is aware that it is only a matter of time before her grandson loses interest in what she has to say.

Not much is known about Princess Aesha who spent most of her life hidden away in the Maidenvault and on Dragonstone.  It is whispered that her mother's treatment and lack of love for her drove Aesha mad.  She is said to have strange dreams and the ability to see and speak with ghosts.  Despite these absurd rumors, many still seek her hand in marriage for the simple fact that she was born a princess.  Alysanne and Aeron have refused all offers.

She resides on Dragonstone and remains in the care of Caerys Targaryen.  It is uncertain what the King and Queen Dowager have planned for her.

Cael Waters is the firstborn son of King Caeron Targaryen.  Alysanne would have dismissed him (just like she did his mother) if not for her son's deep friendship with him.  She converted Cael to the Faith of the Seven and used Cael to indoctrinate her willful son for her.  It is through Cael that she convinced her son that the Seven frowned upon brother-sister marrying.

Cael is truly pious, but he is both dutiful and disciplined.  He has a heart of gold.  Queen Aeda once lamented the fact that it was Aeron and not Cael who sat upon the throne.  "Better a pious king than a foolish hypocrite,"  She said in secret to Vaemond Velaryon.

She was betrothed to her brother King Caeron, but the two were so hateful towards each other that their father ended the betrothal.  Instead she married her childhood friend, Aegor of Dragonstone.  She has led a tragic life -- three miscarriages compounded by the drowning of her only child at so young an age, followed by the unfortunate death of her husband in the Second War of Dorne.

Due to her hatred of Alysanne, she has chosen to remain in Dragonstone where she cares for Princess Aesha as well as Lady Aella's children.  She leads a private life.

CROWN

SMALL COUNCIL

Lorent once had a good reputation among high- and lowborn alike.  He served King Veric dutifully, and he served King Caeron just as faithfully even when a Dornishwoman sat upon the throne.

Ironically, it wasn't until his own daughter became queen (and not by his doing) that all he had devoted his entire life to building came undone.  Though still Hand in title, he can only watch helplessly as his queen-daughter and king-grandson slowly destroy the kingdom.  Those who trusted him before have lost complete faith in him, even his once-dear friend Queen Aeda.  Lorent is miserable and drowns this misery in his work.

They call him Vaemond "half-link" Velaryon because as a young man he told everyone he wanted to be a maester, but before earning his first link, he changed his mind and returned home.  Despite this, Vaemond has lived a long, successful life and has served two queens dutifully -- three if he considered Alysanne a queen he actually served.

He is loyal to Queen Aeda who he used to tutor when they were young.  How he learns his secrets no one knows for sure, but Vaemond is personable and well-liked; he is also extremely loyal and secretive.  It is said he has an ear in every room inside King's Landing, and a spy under his employ everywhere else.

Daeron is as cruel as he is a fine knight.  He is so skilled in combat that it is said that even if both men were at their prime, the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, Ser Eustace Vance, would still stand no chance against him.

He is feared and disliked for many reasons: his obvious love for Alysanne the Bad and Aeron the Corrupt; his kin-eating dragon accurately named Cannibal; and of course for when he infamously killed the son of his own best friend Brandon Stark, a goodnatured boy of only fifteen years named Rickon III whose only crime was that his father died before being executed.  There are few who call Daeron Targaryen their friend, and fewer who put their trust in him.

Davren is one of the youngest men in history to ever become a part of any king's Small Council.  He was recommended by both Tycen Lannister and Mychel Lannister (when he still lived), the Lords of Casterly Rock and Lannisport respectively, as a candidate for Master of Coin for his accomplishments in the Westerlands.  He has served three kings now.

Davren is so private that no one can say for sure where his loyalties truly lie.  What can be said for sure is that Davren does his job well.  In a time when more experienced men can barely keep their accounts afloat, Davren manages to make Alysanne's and Aeron's coffers seem bottomless.

Adrian Celtigar is an opportunist with old money and older blood to fall back on.  He was a childhood friend of Lorent Tyrell and has always been close with the Reach, notably Oldtown, the Arbor, and both Brightwater Keep and Highgarden where he's done business regularly in the past.

He is one of the few people Alysanne truly considers an ally, and it is said the two are so close that he named his own son after hers.  His relationship with the Hand and Queen is not the only reason he is Master of Ships, however.  He is also an experienced sailor and traveler -- he was a former Naval officer and is even said to be a friend to the Sealord of Braavos.

Kylan was an Archmaester at the Citadel and he was the Voice of Conclaves on two separate occasions.  In his younger, more idealistic, days he was said to be dedicated and uncorrupt, but that was before he was appointed as Grandmaester.

As Grandmaester he has served three different kings and has been known to give favors for gold.  The Conclave has assembled twice now to discuss removing him as Grandmaester, but the Conclave is always split and he remains in his position.    Kylan is more loyal to Lorent than Aeron they say.

Cadwyn Penrose is the older brother of Ser Kerin Penrose, a famous and renowned knight who served as a Kingsguard before he was slain by Ian Blackmont.  He is known for his strong hatred of Dorne.

He found fame as a Warrior's Son, fighting against injustices in the name of the Seven.  After putting down the sword, he embraced the Seven and became a septon.  He served diligently until being raised to High Septon and has served Caeron and Aeron both.  It is a known fact he is vying to become Aeron's Hand, and he works diligently along the young king.

He is another one of Queen Alysanne's most trusted.

COUNCIL

KINGSGUARD

Eustace was knighted at just twelve, and before his fifteenth nameday he had won countless tourneys.  He was so famous that he became good friends with Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen.

It is rumored that he had affections for Lady Maggy Blackwood who he named his Queen of Love and Beauty in three consecutive tourneys, but that she chose his friend Edwyn Tully over him instead.

Eustace left the Riverlands soon after; before he was brought into the Kingsguard by Queen Rhaenyra, he was Commander of the City Watch for ten years.

The only remaining member who remembers the glory days of Eustace Vance.  As a young boy in the Riverlands, he squired for Eustace before he was knighted.

It is said that Robert followed his old teacher to the Kingsguard, but what most do not talk about is how misfortune took both women he ever loved, and did not give him any children to call his own.

Like his former teacher, he sought a greater purpose, and has devoted most of his life to protecting the King and the realm.

Oren is reserved and keeps to himself.  It is said he does not give out his friendship easily, but in return, he is loyal to those who earn his trust.  He regards the younger Kingsguard with some suspicion.

In his earlier years in the Kingsguard he was close to Ser Yvan and Ser Ian Blackmont.  Some speculate that the three had been so close that when the two defected, Oren had to have at least known.  Some argue that the betrayal hit him the hardest, and because of the suspicion placed on him, he has had to work twice as hard as anyone else to prove his loyalty.

Whatever the case, Oren still serves the crown dutifully to this day.

Cedra Tarth grew apace with her two brothers.  She was better than the both of them at everything:  jousting, archery, swordplay, but her bitter father who was overshadowed by his older sister did not care for Cedra demasculating his sons, as his sister did him when he was younger.

She eventually was warded to House Dondarrion and traveled to King's Landing with Bryon who serves as the Stormland representative.  She won Aeron's nameday tournament, winning the melee in so commanding a fashion that she caught Lorent Tyrell's eye.  She was named Kingsguard three months later.  She is only the second woman to be appointed to the Kingsguard, the first being her ancestor Brienne of Tarth.

Younger brother of Brynden Blackwood, another formidable swordsman in the realm.  The two are not close; whereas Brynden lived his own life the way he saw fit, Derek was the squire for Brynden III Tully.

Derek Blackwood was noticed by Daeron Targaryen originally, but it was Lorent Tyrell who hand selected the young knight.  Honorable and selfless like his mentor, he considers being a member of the Kingsguard the honor of a lifetime.

When he was named Kingsguard the entire west was taken aback.  A loyal knight to Casterly Rock, Lyonel served as his brother's right hand.  Feeling betrayed, Tycen swore his brother dead to him when he took the white.  No one knows precisely why Lyonel left his brother's side, not even Tycen who has not said a word to him since he took his position.

Lyonel serves the crown loyally, but the stigma Ian and Yvan put on all newcomers to follow in their wake  puts him in awkward position where despite his oath he is still not completely trusted by his peers.

Lucas Flowers is said to be the first child and only son of Garlan III Tyrell.  His mother is Serina Bulwer (grandniece of Septon Edgar of Highgarden) who was a lady-in-waiting at the time for Garlan's aunt, Valerie Ashford.  To avoid the scandal, Valerie arranged a marriage for her and had the girl sent away.  Garlan was later married, but died before producing a male heir.

It is said that when the married Serina Chester came to pay her respects, that Lucas' undeniable resemblance to Garlan was immediately noticed by his younger brother, Garth Tyrell, who informed Lorent.

Lorent met with Lucas, and days later, Lucas took the white.
