RUMOR & SPECULATION
-
Nercissa Martell was rumored to be barren (or unable to bear healthy children) while married to Caeron Targaryen. It was not until she escaped King's Landing that she was able to carry out a pregnancy. Since then, she bore one set of twins and three separate children. Many in Dorne speculate that while the two were married, Lord Hand Lorent Tyrell sabotaged her pregnancies.
-
Many believe Lorent Tyrell orchestrated the events that would lead up to the Second Dornish War. But while competent and shrewd, those who know him best know that he is neither selfish enough, nor is he underhanded enough, to arrange Caeron's marriage to Alysanne. It is also true, however, that Lorent did offer his daughter's hand in marriage on two previous occasions, and that it was also Lorent who suggested Caeron visit Highgarden where he met Alysanne.
-
Queen Aeda Targaryen mistrusts her good-daughter Queen Alysanne who she once suspected of having a sexual affair with her nephew Daeron Targaryen. She even suspected her granddaughter Aesha Targaryen of being his daughter until she was born with her son's platinum hair.
-
Lorent Tyrell does not speak with his wife, Beatris Tyrell. It is unknown what caused the rift, only that one day the two had a heated argument that resulted in Lorent having his own wife all but forcibly removed from King's Landing. She has not been allowed to return since, and it is said that even in Highgarden she is not left alone. Lorent's distrust for his wife is so great that he has even employed his good-daughters, Cassidy and Laurel Tyrell, to spy on her.
-
It is popular opinion that Vaemond Velaryon (the Master of Whisperers) is loyal to Queen Aeda. Queen Alysanne distrusts and dislikes this Velaryon, but she has not yet been able to prove his lack of loyalty. Unfortunately for Alysanne, King Aeron is also fond of the older man, who introduced him to Alira and Rayna Velaryon.
-
Rayna Velaryon was rumored to be King Aeron's lover. This rumor was proven to be fact when he kissed her on his sixteenth nameday celebration, on the eve of his own coronation. Queen Aeda favors the Velaryon and has pushed for a marriage, however Alysanne favors the Celtigar and has expressed her disgust towards her son's lover. Alysanne was heard saying, "Why buy a cow when you can get the milk for free?" Aeron agreed to not marry her, but still refers to Rayna as his "beloved" and "mistress." He has taken other lovers since but has been fickle with all but Rayna who he still sends expensive gifts and requests the company of. It is noted that Rayna Velaryon has a striking resemblance to his own sister, Princess Aesha.
-
It is rumored that the Kingsguard knight Ser Lucas Flowers is the baseborn son of the deceased Garlan Tyrell, and that he is the rightful heir of Highgarden. He has declined all rumors, but the resemblance is uncanny.
-
Queen Aeda and Alysanne argue so often that King Aeron once threatened to have both of them thrown into the Black Cells. Aeda slapped him and his mother simply left the room to pray at the Sept. Since then, is it noted that he consults his mother and grandmother less and less.
